In a recent interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom, former US military intelligence officer Scott Ritter stated that Israeli forces would face significant casualties if they were to conduct a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.
“If the Israelis venture into Gaza, they will die. They will die in numbers that the Israelis have not seen before,” he said.
Ritter believes that the Palestinian movement Hamas is prepared for a ground operation and intentionally luring Israel into a “deadly trap.”
Prior to this, the Palestinian representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, called on US President Joe Biden to persuade Israel to cease its shelling of the Gaza Strip.
On October 7th, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory, declaring the start of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, seizing dozens of military vehicles and over a hundred hostages. The counter-operation by the Israel Defense Forces has been named “Iron Swords,” with one of its objectives being the destruction of Hamas. The Israeli Air Force has conducted strikes on hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, and the Israeli National Security Council has decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the region. On October 13th, Israel informed the United Nations that 1.1 million Palestinians should evacuate to the south of Gaza within 24 hours in anticipation of a ground operation.
