Turkey Engages in Negotiations with Hamas for the Release of Hostages

Turkey is currently in talks with the political wing of the radical Hamas movement to secure the release of hostages, including foreigners. This statement was made by the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, as reported by TASS.

Fidan mentioned that the ministry has received requests from various countries seeking assistance in freeing their citizens. The Turkish government has begun discussing these matters with the political wing of Hamas.

On October 7, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory and declared the start of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, seizing dozens of military vehicles and over a hundred hostages. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that the country was in a state of war.

The Israeli Defense Forces’ counter-operation has been named “Operation Iron Swords,” with the destruction of Hamas being one of its objectives. The Israeli Air Force has conducted strikes on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli National Security Council has decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the Gaza Strip. On October 13, Israel informed the United Nations that 1.1 million Palestinians are required to evacuate to the south of Gaza within 24 hours in anticipation of a ground operation.

Earlier, the head of the US Central Command General Michael K. Nagata arrived in Israel to discuss military assistance.
