During his visit, President Biden will engage in discussions with Israeli leaders on strategies to minimize civilian casualties in the densely populated Gaza Strip, which has been heavily impacted by Israeli airstrikes. The objective is to ensure that Israel’s operations are conducted in a manner that prioritizes the safety of civilians and enables humanitarian aid to reach those in need, without inadvertently benefiting Hamas.
To further demonstrate support, the Biden administration has already pledged military assistance, dispatching U.S. carriers and aid to the region. Notably, he spoke with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Due to the urgency of the situation, President Biden postponed a planned trip to Colorado, where he intended to promote his economic agenda. Instead, he will travel to Jordan after his visit to Israel to meet with Arab leaders as tensions continue to escalate in the region. Among those scheduled to meet with President Biden are King Abdullah of Jordan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The aim is to reiterate that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination and to discuss the pressing humanitarian needs of the civilians in Gaza.
