Russia Accuses West of Supporting Ukrainian Attacks on Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant

Deputy Director of the Department of Nonproliferation and Arms Control at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Konstantin Vorontsov, has accused Western countries of enabling the constant attacks on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) by the Ukrainian authorities. Speaking at a session of the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on disarmament, Vorontsov stated that the reckless actions of Kiev at the ZNPP would not have been possible without the continuous political support provided by Western countries. According to the diplomat, it is the West that instills false hope of impunity in the Ukrainian authorities and provokes them into new adventures.

Vorontsov emphasized that since July 2022, the city of Energodar has been subjected to shelling and drone attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) almost daily. He highlighted that numerous Ukrainian drones are neutralized in the vicinity of the nuclear power plant on a regular basis.

Previously, the Director of the Federal Security Service of Russia, Alexander Bortnikov, referred to the plans of Kiev and London to organize sabotage at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant as acts of terrorism.

It is worth noting that Russia has recently developed a new system for countering drones.
