Putin Blames US for Conflict in Ukraine, Criticizes NATO’s Failure to Follow Agreements

In an interview with China Media Corporation, Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the armed conflict in Ukraine was caused by the actions of the United States, who sought to bring Kiev into NATO. He reminded of the declaration of Ukraine’s independence, which clearly stated the neutral status of Kiev. However, the actual hostilities began in Ukraine after the state coup in 2014, and the first escalation occurred after Kiev refused to implement the Minsk agreements. Subsequently, the United States actively started integrating Ukraine into the North Atlantic Alliance.

“Why? Until now, no one understands. And year after year, tensions have been escalating. Eventually, the crisis of 2014 erupted into armed conflict. All of this has led to a new level of escalation,” Putin said.

The Russian leader also pointed out the inability of Washington and Brussels to adhere to previously concluded agreements. According to Putin, it is very difficult to interact and have a dialogue with such people. The problems of the United States and NATO in complying with agreements, in Putin’s opinion, lie in the colonial legacy of Western countries.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized the Western colonial approach to creating a world order. Earlier, a Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter expressed his lack of understanding of the reasons for the conflict in Ukraine.
