US Provides Defense Assistance to Israel to Prevent Escalation of Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

The United States government has announced its plans to send a significant portion of defense aid to Israel in order to prevent the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This statement was made by US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, during his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Cairo. The news was reported by Al Jazeera.

According to Blinken, the US authorities want to make it clear that they support Israel in its efforts to prevent the escalation of the conflict. “A significant portion of this aid is already being directed,” noted the Secretary of State, adding that further discussions on this matter will take place.

The article highlights that the United States also aims to assist in the release of hostages held by the Palestinian radical group, Hamas, some of whom are American citizens.

Prior to this announcement, Blinken mentioned that the US, Israel, Egypt, and the United Nations are working together to establish a mechanism to provide assistance to the Gaza Strip.
