Hezbollah Strikes Back: Retaliation for Israeli Attacks on Lebanese Settlements

In response to Israeli military strikes on settlements in southern Lebanon, the Shiite organization Hezbollah has claimed that it launched attacks on Israeli positions. According to a statement from Hezbollah, “In response to Israeli attacks on Friday, Hezbollah fighters targeted Israeli positions.” This retaliatory action comes after the chief of the Israeli army’s General Staff, Gadi Eizenkot, warned Hezbollah against getting involved in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas.

On October 7th, Hamas forces fired thousands of rockets into Israeli territory, initiating the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, seizing dozens of military vehicles and over a hundred hostages. Against this backdrop, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was in a state of war. The Israeli Defense Forces’ retaliatory operation, named “Iron Swords,” aims to destroy Hamas. The Israeli Air Force has targeted hundreds of Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip, and the Israeli National Security Council has decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the region. On October 13th, Israel informed the United Nations that 1.1 million Palestinians must evacuate to the southern part of Gaza within 24 hours in preparation for a ground operation.

Earlier, Hezbollah had declared its support for the actions of the Palestinian fighters, asserting their legitimacy.
