Arrest Made in Connection to Morgan State University Shooting

Law enforcement authorities have apprehended a suspect connected to the shooting that occurred at Morgan State University on October 3, injuring five individuals, including four students. The Baltimore Police Department confirmed that a 17-year-old suspect was arrested in Washington, D.C., and is now facing multiple counts of attempted murder. However, another suspect, 18-year-old Jovan Williams, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Following the incident, Baltimore police released surveillance footage to the media, which helped identify the two suspects. The victims, who were not the intended targets, have since been released from the hospital. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley expressed gratitude for the assistance of various partners in capturing one of the suspects and emphasized the department’s determination to apprehend Williams.

In response to the shooting, Morgan State University announced plans to construct a wall around a significant portion of the campus, along with increased security measures. University President David Wilson outlined a $22 million initiative that would extend existing barriers and enhance security personnel presence at entrances and exits. The proposed upgrades also include installing additional metal detectors, exploring weapons detection technology, increasing police patrols, and constructing additional security guard booths.

Mayor Brandon Scott commended law enforcement for their efforts and pledged continued support for the Morgan campus. He also emphasized the need for national action to address gun violence, particularly the illegal possession of firearms by individuals who should not have access to them.

Law enforcement agencies, along with Metro Crime Stoppers and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), are offering a $9,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and charges filed against the remaining suspect. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Northeast District Detectives or Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland.

The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenge of gun violence in the United States and the need for comprehensive strategies to address the issue.
