The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a dire warning, stating that Israel’s evacuation order for vulnerable hospital patients in Gaza is akin to a “death sentence.” The spokesperson for WHO, Tarik Jasarevic, revealed that health authorities in Gaza have stated that it is impossible to evacuate these patients within the 24-hour timeframe set by Israel’s military. Jasarevic emphasized that some individuals are reliant on life support, such as mechanical ventilators, and moving them would result in their demise. The European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, went further, describing Israel’s directive as “utterly unrealistic.” Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza, has instructed residents to disregard the order, dismissing it as “fake propaganda.”
The WHO has previously warned that hospitals in Gaza are on the verge of collapse, with limited resources and capacity. They have called for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to allow health workers to enter and facilitate the evacuation of the sick and injured. Jasarevic highlighted the dire situation, stating that hospitals have only a few hours of electricity each day and are reliant on generators for critical functions. He emphasized that patients in intensive care units and newborns are particularly vulnerable.
Jasarevic stressed the urgency of the situation, stating that time is running out to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. The delivery of fuel, water, food, and life-saving supplies is essential, but the complete blockage hinders their immediate delivery. The international community must act swiftly to address this crisis and ensure the well-being of the people in Gaza.
