Ukrainian Leader Promises Not to Attack Nuclear Power Plant, Raises Concerns

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a promise to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, that his country’s army will not shell the nuclear power plant in the Zaporizhzhia region. This statement has been deemed as an admission of guilt by Vladimir Rogov, the chairman of the public movement “We Are Together with Russia”, as reported by RIA Novosti. According to Rogov, the Ukrainian leader has essentially confessed to orchestrating attacks on the energy infrastructure.

Rogov emphasized that this statement is a significant blunder on the part of the Ukrainian authorities. He questioned the need for Zelensky to promise not to shell the power plant now, when he previously assured the world that such attacks had never taken place. “This is essentially an admission of guilt. Why promise not to shell now, when Zelensky had previously stated and assured the world that he never did it?” said the movement’s leader.

Rogov further pointed out that the head of state himself has debunked the “absurd claims” made by Kyiv regarding the situation at the nuclear power plant. This includes previous statements blaming solely the Russian military for the shelling of the Zaporizhzhia power plant. On October 10th, the Director General of the IAEA announced that he had discussed the situation in the Zaporizhzhia region with the Ukrainian leader. Grossi stated that Zelensky had given him a direct assurance that the station would not be attacked.

Earlier, the Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, revealed attempts by Kyiv to take control of the Zaporizhzhia power plant.
