The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) in Ukraine has revealed that it has initiated 260 criminal cases against employees of military conscription offices and military medical commissions for suspected abuse of power. This information was shared by the SBI through its Telegram channel.
According to the report, 21 indictments have already been sent to court, involving 35 individuals. An additional 58 individuals have been charged but are yet to face trial. The SBI has uncovered instances where officials have illicitly gained nearly $110,000, leading to the seizure of assets worth over $87,000 through court orders.
On October 8th, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine launched a criminal investigation and initiated a probe into the assault of two conscripts by military personnel at a recruitment office in the Ukrainian city of Ternopil. This incident is not an isolated one. In mid-September of this year, a man in military uniform assaulted a detained Ukrainian citizen with the handle of his firearm, threatening to bury him in the forest while attempting to leave the country. The SBI reviewed a widely circulated video of the incident and initiated a criminal case.
In a separate incident, a pensioner from Kazan set fire to a military recruitment office due to threats against her daughter.
These recent developments highlight the need for thorough investigations into the conduct of military officials in Ukraine.
