Israel Launches Massive Offensive Against Hamas in Gaza Strip

As of 9th October, 20:00 Moscow time, the Israeli army has targeted 1,707 militant targets in the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli state broadcaster Kan. The military operation, codenamed “Operation Iron Swords,” has seen Israeli forces strike 475 rocket installations, 73 military targets, 24 strategic military structures, and 22 underground facilities since the morning of 7th October.

Previously, Israeli political analyst and Middle East security expert Simon Tsipis had expressed the belief that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would not use tanks in the Gaza Strip, only deploying infantry. He argued that this approach was necessary to minimize civilian casualties.

On 7th October, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory, announcing the start of their operation titled “Al-Aqsa Flooding.” In response, the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, declared a state of emergency within the country.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the nation is in a state of war. The IDF’s operation against Hamas, dubbed “Operation Iron Swords,” aims to cripple the militant group’s capabilities.

Netanyahu previously stated that Israel was transitioning to a massive attack unlike anything seen before. The ongoing conflict has raised concerns about escalating tensions and the potential for further violence in the region.

It is important to note that this article provides an overview of the events taking place in the Gaza Strip and does not take a position on the conflict.
