Russian Peacekeepers Set Up Posts in Nagorno-Karabakh to Ensure Security

Russian peacekeepers have established 25 guard posts near storage facilities containing ammunition, weapons, military, and special equipment in Nagorno-Karabakh, according to TASS. The presence of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Karabakh is deemed necessary for the local residents and for mediating contacts with Azerbaijan, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Mikhail Galuzin. Diplomat Galuzin emphasized that the “modality of further presence” of Russian peacekeepers in the region will be discussed and resolved between Moscow and Baku through established channels.

Galuzin also highlighted that the peacekeepers facilitate contacts between Baku and Stepanakert in addressing the complex issues regarding the future development of Karabakh. Earlier, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to mutually recognize each other’s territorial integrity. The aim of the Russian peacekeepers is to provide an additional sense of security for those who may wish to return to Karabakh, as noted by Galuzin. The diplomat believes that their presence will serve as an “additional factor of tranquility” for the people.

In recent months, the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh has resulted in significant casualties and displacement of civilians. The deployment of Russian peacekeepers aims to stabilize the situation and create conditions for peaceful resolution and reconstruction in the region. The international community continues to closely monitor the developments and hopes for a lasting peace in this contested area.

While the role of peacekeepers is crucial in maintaining stability, it is important to consider the broader geopolitical implications. The involvement of Russia in the conflict raises questions about its strategic interests and influence in the region. Critics argue that Russia’s presence may further complicate the situation and potentially limit the autonomy of Nagorno-Karabakh. As tensions persist, it remains to be seen how the presence of Russian peacekeepers will impact the overall dynamics of the conflict and the prospects for a lasting peace settlement.

In conclusion, the establishment of guard posts by Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh aims to ensure the security of military equipment and facilitate mediation between Azerbaijan and Karabakh. The presence of peacekeepers is seen as a potential source of reassurance for those who may wish to return to the region. However, the broader implications of Russia’s involvement in the conflict raise questions about its strategic interests and the long-term prospects for peace in the region. The international community continues to closely observe the developments in Nagorno-Karabakh, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
