Destruction of Port Infrastructure and Grain Warehouses in Ukraine Raises Concerns

During a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, Russia’s permanent representative to the organization, Vasily Nebenzia, announced that if port infrastructure and grain warehouses in Ukraine are used to store heavy military equipment, weapons, and ammunition, they will be destroyed. According to TASS, Nebenzia warned, “This means that they will be destroyed as well.” He reiterated Russia’s stance that they do not target civilian objects or peaceful residents in Ukraine, emphasizing that their precision weapons are solely aimed at destroying military capabilities.

This statement comes after the head of the Odessa administration, Oleg Kiper, reported damage to a grain warehouse in the Izmailsky district due to explosions on the night of October 6. As a result, the operations of the “Orlovka” ferry crossing on the Ukrainian-Romanian border have been suspended. It is worth noting that in September, grain warehouses in the part of the Kharkiv region under Russian control were also shelled by Ukrainian armed forces.

Nebenzia previously referred to the upcoming UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine as another show with President Zelensky. The destruction of vital infrastructure raises concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its impact on the economy and livelihoods of the people. It is crucial for the international community to closely monitor the situation and work towards a peaceful resolution.
