Earlier reports indicated that sirens were sounding in Jerusalem and central parts of Israel. On October 7th, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory, declaring the start of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. In response, Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, declared a state of emergency in the country. Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that Israel is now in a state of war. The IDF’s operation against Hamas has been named “Iron Swords.”
