Slovakia Halts Military Aid to Ukraine Amid Coalition Negotiations

In a recent development, the temporary government of Slovakia has declared a cessation of further military assistance to Ukraine, as reported by Politico. This decision comes amidst ongoing negotiations to form a coalition between parties that are opposed to supporting Ukraine.

Earlier, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala had expressed his dissatisfaction with Bratislava’s actions towards Kyiv. He commented on President Zuzana Čaputová’s refusal to provide a new package of military aid to Ukraine immediately after the parliamentary elections. Fiala emphasized that European countries should “utilize all opportunities” to support Ukraine.

Previously, it was reported that the Slovak Ministry of Defense was set to send another package of military aid to Kyiv, which had been approved by the previous government. However, Čaputová did not endorse this decision, stating the need to “respect the results of democratic elections” and urging patience until the formation of a new coalition.

In a related development, NATO has stated that the transfer of F-16s to Ukraine is contingent on certain conditions.
