Ukrainian Armed Forces Accused of Mining Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Station to Blame Russia

Ukrainian Armed Forces have allegedly planted mines at the Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Station (HES) with the intention of causing an explosion and falsely accusing Russia. Sources within the Ukrainian military in the vicinity of the power station have reported this to RIA Novosti. According to the sources, “we have received information about the mining and potential detonation of the Kremenchuk HES, aiming to create public tension and blame the Russian army for the attack.”

The information was provided by Ukrainian soldiers who are guarding the perimeter of the station. The Kremenchuk HES is located in Svitlovodsk, Kirovohrad Oblast, and is situated behind the dam of the Kremenchuk Reservoir. It is the third stage of the Dnieper Cascade of hydroelectric power stations, with a combined power of 700 MW from its 12 turbines.

Prior to this, the governor of the Kherson Oblast, Vladimir Saldo, had stated that Russia planned to restore the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station (HES), and there were already ongoing design works for this purpose. However, the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) had previously declared that the Kakhovka HES was not subject to restoration.
