A small plane crashed through the roof of a home in Oregon on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and serious injuries to another on board. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. when the small aircraft was observed spiraling towards the ground near North Cedar Street in Newberg, according to a statement by Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.
Multiple 911 calls prompted firefighters to respond to the scene, where they discovered the plane partially embedded in a residential home and partially in the backyard after crashing through the roof. Fortunately, neither the aircraft nor the house caught fire, although emergency crews were on standby. Initially, two occupants were confirmed to be inside the plane, with one pronounced dead at the scene and the other airlifted to a Portland trauma center with serious injuries.
As search efforts continued amidst the wreckage, it was later revealed that a third occupant was also on board and tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries on the ground or near the home at the time of the crash. Multiple individuals were inside the house during the incident, but all were able to safely evacuate. The affected family is currently receiving assistance from the Red Cross after being displaced from their home.
The cause of the small plane’s spiral and subsequent crash into the residential home remains unclear. Authorities, including the police, Federal Aviation Administration, and National Transportation Safety Board, are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the accident and the circumstances leading up to it.
