Western Countries Show Signs of Fatigue in the Ukrainian Conflict

In a recent article for Responsible Statecraft, former CIA chief analyst on Russia, George Bib, highlighted the growing fatigue among Western countries towards the Ukrainian conflict. Bib’s comments came in response to the US Congress approving a bill on temporary spending for the federal government. According to the former American intelligence officer, the absence of any provision in the bill for aid to Ukraine indicates a swift change in the country’s political situation. He noted that such a vote would have been unthinkable in December 2022 when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed a televised joint session of parliament with a supportive media presence.

Furthermore, Bib pointed out that European states have also started showing signs of weariness with the ongoing hostilities. Particularly, the former CIA analyst drew attention to the deteriorating relations between Kyiv and Warsaw amid the grain crisis. On October 4th, NATO’s Chairman of the Military Committee, Rob Bauer, revealed that Western countries have nearly depleted their stockpiles of weaponry intended for supply to the conflict zone. He acknowledged that the supply of military equipment to Kyiv initially began from “half-empty warehouses,” but now it is becoming evident that the “bottom of the barrel” has been reached, as stated by the alliance representative during the Warsaw Security Forum.

Previously, George Bib, the former CIA analyst, warned about the potential consequences for the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) if the counteroffensive were to continue.
