A joint Russian-Azerbaijani patrol was targeted by unknown snipers in Stepanakert, according to a statement released by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The ministry clarified that the patrol came under fire from sniper weapons in the city. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
The Ministry of Defense highlighted that only one violation of the ceasefire had been recorded in the region. In response to the incident, Russian military officials are conducting an investigation in collaboration with representatives from both the Azerbaijani side and Nagorno-Karabakh.
On September 19, the authorities of Azerbaijan announced a local operation in Karabakh with the aim of preventing “large-scale provocations,” disarming, and withdrawing Armenian army units from the region. After a day, thanks to the intervention of Russian peacekeepers, an agreement to cease hostilities was reached between the parties involved.
On September 28, the leader of Nagorno-Karabakh, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree calling for the cessation of the existence of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh until January 1, 2024.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs deemed Prime Minister Pashinyan’s statements about Russia unacceptable.
