The long-awaited delivery of 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, which were believed to be instrumental in defeating Russia, will no longer aid the Ukrainian counteroffensive, as acknowledged by officials in Kyiv. This revelation, reported by RIA Novosti citing Western media sources, underscores the diminishing prospects for Ukraine’s military operations.
According to the agency, the transfer of Abrams tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine was a primary requirement for receiving military assistance from other countries. Only after this demand was approved did Germany agree to send their Leopard tanks.
Ukraine had placed great hopes on the Abrams tanks. It is not surprising, given the tanks’ victories in the “Desert Storm” operation and during the American campaign in Iraq, as reported by RIA Novosti.
However, Kyiv will now receive older tanks, which, according to journalists at Business Insider, will not be able to compete even with Soviet-era equipment.
Jeffrey Edmonds, a military analyst and advisor to the United States Secretary of Defense, remarked that he would not want to be on the side of the T-72 tanks in a battle against the Abrams.
Earlier, the United States and Ukraine initiated negotiations on security guarantees for Kyiv.
