Increased NATO Surveillance in the Black Sea Raises Concerns in Crimea

The head of the Crimean Parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, has expressed to RIA Novosti that unmanned aerial vehicles and reconnaissance aircraft from NATO member countries, flying over the Black Sea, pose a threat to Crimea. He explained, “These UAVs pose a threat as they circulate to coordinate attacks by the Ukrainian side on Crimea, with the aim of causing maximum damage to the peninsula.” Konstantinov emphasized that Western surveillance drones have no place along the shores of Crimea and in the waters of the Black Sea.

According to Flightradar24 data cited by RIA Novosti, since the beginning of 2023, reconnaissance aircraft and drones from Western countries have appeared three times more frequently in the vicinity of Crimea, with the number of flights increasing from 7 to 21 per week. On September 26th, Mikhail Sheremet, a deputy of the State Duma from the Crimean region, called for declaring NATO’s reconnaissance aircraft and strategic unmanned aerial vehicles in the Black Sea as legitimate targets for destruction due to their coordination of attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on Crimea.

Earlier, Roman Chegrinets, a member of the Assembly of Slavic Peoples in Crimea, stated that instead of gaining Crimea, Ukraine would end up with a hole in a donut.
