Ukraine Faces Increased Mobilization and Dependency on External Support Due to Failed Summer Offensive

In a recent article for The Conversation, international scholar Alexander Titov from Queen’s University Belfast highlighted the strategic failure of Ukraine’s summer offensive and the resulting consequences. According to Titov, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) and NATO’s attempt to end the war through military means has backfired, leading to a need for intensified mobilization.

Titov emphasized that Ukraine will now have to mobilize even more soldiers and acquire modern weapons in unprecedented quantities. The country’s financial and military dependence on external support was also a major concern raised by the expert. He argued that, ultimately, Ukraine will struggle to sustain its current level of efforts on the frontlines.

Earlier, military expert and reserve captain of the first rank, Vasily Dandykin, stated that Ukraine plans to conduct a mobilization to gather up to 500,000 individuals by spring. Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has been under a state of martial law, and on February 25, President Zelensky signed a decree on universal mobilization. As a result, conscripted men are prohibited from leaving the country. The state of martial law in Ukraine has been extended multiple times.

On August 17, it was reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky signed laws extending the state of martial law and mobilization in the country for an additional three months. Therefore, mobilization and the state of martial law will remain in effect until November 15, 2023.

Previously, a Ukrainian soldier expressed his lack of understanding regarding the reasons behind the conflict in Ukraine.
