Former Commander of Nagorno-Karabakh Army Captured by Azerbaijani Forces

In a recent development, Lieutenant General Levon Mnatsakanyan, the former commander of the Nagorno-Karabakh army, has been captured by Azerbaijani military forces at a checkpoint on the way from Artsakh to Armenia. This information was reported by the Telegram channel Re:public of Artsakh, citing a statement from political analyst Narek Samsonyan.

According to Samsonyan’s Facebook post, he wrote, “Lieutenant General Levon Mnatsakanyan was recently captured by Azerbaijanis at a checkpoint while traveling from Karabakh to Armenia. I have no doubt that both General Mnatsakanyan and Ruben Vardanyan were taken prisoner on direct orders from the treacherous regime.”

Prior to this incident, the CBC television channel reported that Azerbaijan intends to allow UN experts to enter the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. It was also announced that the European Union is prepared to provide additional humanitarian assistance to the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh amounting to €5 million, according to Peter Stano, the official spokesperson for the Union’s foreign service.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs deemed Prime Minister Pashinyan’s statements about Russia as unacceptable.
