Russian tank fighters from the 1st Guards Tank Army of the Western Military District have been awarded monetary certificates for successfully destroying German Leopard tanks, according to a report by RIA Novosti citing the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The certificates were presented to the soldiers who destroyed the Leopard tank on the frontlines in the zone of a special military operation conducted by the group of troops in the “West” military district. The tank fighters representing the 1st Guards Tank Army were identified as the artillery commander with the call sign “Stepa” and the head of the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) unit with the call sign “Gamlet,” as stated in the report.
The awarded soldiers shared the circumstances of the battle, stating that the artillerymen, under the guidance of the UAV operators, opened fire on the advancing tanks. Their shells damaged the tracks of the combat vehicles, leading the tank crews to abandon their disabled equipment.
Furthermore, the artillerymen prevented the Ukrainian soldiers from evacuating the damaged tanks.
