Germany Approves Joint Venture Between Rheinmetall and UkrOboronProm for Military Equipment Production

The Federal Cartel Office of Germany has given its approval for the establishment of a joint venture (JV) between German conglomerate Rheinmetall and Ukrainian defense company UkrOboronProm, according to a report by Spiegel. The agency emphasized that the JV will be based in Kyiv and will engage in servicing, assembly, and production of military equipment. The publication notes that initially, the venture will only operate within the territory of Ukraine. Furthermore, it clarifies that the project will not lead to any competition violations in Germany.

Prior to this, German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall had supplied a mobile field hospital to Ukraine. In September 2022, the German Ministry of Defense signed a contract with Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme (RMS), a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, for the construction of the hospital and related support for personnel training. The order is valued at approximately €9 million, as stated by the manufacturer.

Earlier, President Zelensky revealed the obstacles preventing Ukraine from shifting the military action onto Russian territory.
