Protests in Yerevan Demand Prime Minister’s Resignation

YEREVAN, September 25 – The Armenian police have arrested 168 participants of protest actions in Yerevan on Monday, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, according to the press service of the department. “As of now, 168 people have been taken to police stations,” said a spokesperson for the agency. Earlier, the police reported 142 detainees. Protesters have been blocking the streets of Yerevan since morning, attempting to paralyze the city’s transportation system. The protests in Yerevan have been ongoing since September 19, when Azerbaijan initiated counter-terrorism measures in Karabakh. In Republic Square, in the center of Yerevan, demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who recognized Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. Periodic clashes and skirmishes between protesters and the police have been occurring. In recent days, the police have started mass arrests of protest leaders and participants.
