The authorities have released bodycam footage of the fatal shooting of Eddie Irizarry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 14. Mark Dial, a former Philadelphia police officer who is out on bail, has had his bail revoked by a judge after being accused of shooting and killing Irizarry. Dial, who surrendered on a criminal warrant, is facing charges of murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, and other offenses. Despite the release of the bodycam video, Dial’s defense team claims that their client heard the word “gun” before opening fire and finds the murder charge “appalling.” The initial claims made by the department that the officers made a traffic stop and shot a person outside the vehicle after he “lunged at” police with a knife have been backtracked. Departing Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw admitted that a review of the body-worn camera footage revealed that their initial report was not accurate. Dial has been suspended with intent to dismiss due to his refusal to cooperate with the investigation.
