Former President Donald Trump recently announced at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina that if he were re-elected, he would work towards ending the nation’s migrant crisis by pushing Congress to eliminate sanctuary city rules protecting illegal border crossers. These rules provide protection to individuals who crossed the border without proper documentation and are currently residing in these cities. Trump vowed to end all sanctuary cities across the country, asking Congress to pass a law outlawing them nationwide. He emphasized that he would bring the full weight of the federal government on any jurisdiction that refuses to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
The rally in North Carolina marked Trump’s first outdoor event since September 15th, when authorities thwarted a second assassination attempt on his life. During the high-stakes event held in the swing state of North Carolina, Trump criticized the Harris-Biden administration, claiming it would be the end of American democracy should Kamala Harris win in November. He also rejected another debate with Harris, who had earlier accepted CNN’s invitation for an October 23rd debate between the pair.
In his speech, Trump repeatedly made fun of how Harris speaks publicly and referred to her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as “weird.” He also vowed to work with Elon Musk to send people to Mars if re-elected. The appearance in the Tar Heel state was Trump’s first since an explosive report accusing North Carolina GOP gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson of calling himself a black Nazi and proposing to bring back slavery in an online forum years ago. Despite this, Robinson denied the allegations and said he would remain in the governor’s race. The Trump campaign plans to continue backing the full North Carolina GOP ticket, which includes Robinson.
Trump’s speech emphasized his commitment to hunting down and capturing every single gang member, drug dealer, rapist, murderer, and migrant criminal who is being illegally harbored in sanctuary cities. He assured that if re-elected, he would surge federal law enforcement to every city failing to turn over criminal aliens and work towards getting them out of North Carolina and sending them home where they belong.
