Unite for America”: Kamala Harris and Oprah Join Forces for a Star-Studded Campaign Event

Vice President Kamala Harris recently attended a star-studded campaign event hosted by Oprah Winfrey. However, the Democratic presidential nominee didn’t offer any new policy proposals during the two-hour “Unite for America” livestream event from Michigan, which was meant to highlight the grassroots organizers supporting Harris and provide an opportunity for voters to ask her about her platform.

At one point during the evening, Harris was questioned about how she would secure the southern border. After giving a rambling three-minute response in which she mentioned her background as a prosecutor and as the elected Attorney General of a border state, Winfrey finally interjected to bring the vice president back on track.

Harris then reaffirmed her commitment to signing a bipartisan border bill into law if she is elected president, without offering any new policies for dealing with the crisis at the southern border.

The “Unite for America” event aimed to reach a large number of voters through Winfrey’s presence and simultaneous streaming on social media platforms. Celebrities like Chris Rock and Ben Stiller tuned in and expressed their support for Harris.

During the event, Harris spoke at length about abortion rights and reiterated her policy proposals for new homeowners, small business owners, and an increase to the Child Tax Credit. Winfrey remarked that she has noticed more energy and swagger from Harris since President Joe Biden suspended his bid.

Harris took a veiled shot at former President Donald Trump by emphasizing the importance of holding on to democracy. The vice president had conducted six media interviews before her live stream with Winfrey as a 2024 candidate, which is fewer than any recent presidential nominee.

She waited over one month to present her policy proposals and has stated that she’s “not Joe Biden” and believes the country can’t return to the Trump administration. Despite growing enthusiasm for Harris, her campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon acknowledged that the race is still close against Trump and urged voters to turn out in the upcoming election.
