The police have arrested a man believed to be responsible for the murder of a family of four in upstate New York last month, as announced on Friday. Irondequoit Police shared the news in a post that included details about the arrest of 34-year-old Julio Cesar Pimentel-Soriano, who is originally from the Dominican Republic.
According to reports, Pimentel-Soriano is also wanted in his home country for another murder that occurred in 2019. The tragic incident took place on August 31, when Fraime Ubaldo (30), Marangely Moreno-Santiago (26), Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno (4), and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno (2) were murdered in their Irondequoit home.
Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters, who held a press conference following the arrest, described the crime scene as “horrific” and stated that he had not seen anything like it during his nearly 32 years of working in law enforcement.
Investigators were able to locate and arrest Julio Cesar Pimentel-Soriano on September 7. The Irondequoit Police Department’s post revealed that the suspect allegedly entered Puerto Rico illegally and later obtained fraudulent identification from New York, which allowed him to travel from the island to the United States mainland.
Irondequoit Town Supervisor Andrae Evans offered condolences to the family and their friends and neighbors, while also expressing his commitment to supporting the police department’s efforts to bring those responsible for this horrific act to justice. The family’s bodies were found in the basement of their home as firefighters addressed several fires at the scene that morning.
Further investigation determined that the cause of death for the family was not related to the fires, and a makeshift vigil was set up on the front porch of the Moreno family’s home on Knapp Avenue in Irondequoit. The community came together to place stuffed animals and photos of the victims at the memorial site.
While limited information has been released by the police department at this time, their efforts to seek justice for the Moreno family continue as part of an active investigation.
