Influencer, model, and Mariah Carey impersonator Suellen Carey made headlines when she tied the knot in a bizarre ceremony to herself in London last year. Unfortunately, nearly one year into her solo marriage, known as sologamy, she has decided to call it quits.
Reflecting on her decision to end her relationship with herself, Suellen expressed that even commitment to oneself can have its challenges, such as dealing with the expectation of being perfect for yourself all the time. She realized she was putting a lot of pressure on herself and that sometimes left her exhausted. Ultimately, she understood that even in a marriage with oneself, it’s important to accept our imperfections.
The 36-year-old, who was born in Brazil but currently lives in London, even went to couple’s therapy to try and work through her solo marriage. After 10 sessions of therapy, she decided it was time for a divorce, admitting that she at times felt lonely in her relationship.
Suellen shared a Pubity post about her divorce on Instagram and captioned it, “I need a new husband,” as well as an emoji of a laughing face with tears and a heart. The influencer has some 433,000 followers on the platform and announced her nuptials back in September 2023, posting a photo of herself in a white wedding dress.
As a Mariah Carey impersonator, Suellen has worked with many notable figures and found significant success in her career, earning nearly $18,000 during the Christmas season by 2022. With a last name shared by the pop icon, she was first told she resembled Mariah Carey back when she began her gender transition over a decade ago at 23 years old.
