Surprise Sinkhole Swallows Car in Brooklyn Flood: Couple’s Daring Rescue

A man in Brooklyn experienced an unexpected mishap when he tried to move his girlfriend’s car away from flooded streets during early hours of Monday. The boyfriend encountered a hidden sinkhole that had formed due to a water main break. According to reports, the incident took place around 3:45 a.m. at 275 Bay 37 Street and Cropsey Avenue in Bath Beach.

Vincenza Malagiere, who was with her boyfriend when the accident occurred, narrated their experience to 1010 WINS news outlet. When we came out to move my car, my boyfriend tried and he went straight into the hole,” she stated. Despite the challenging situation, the couple managed to get out of the sinkhole without any injuries.

Malagiere added, “There’s no one out there so we did our best, but I got him out. Him helping himself and me pulling him out.” The NYPD intervened by requesting a tow truck to help retrieve the car from the hidden hole, as reported by ABC 7.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident. However, the water main break affected three residential buildings and seven private dwellings in the area, leaving their residents unable to shower or flush their toilets properly. The city Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) confirmed that repairs were completed, and water service was restored by 3 p.m. on the same day.

The Post reached out to the DEP for more information regarding this unusual incident and its consequences on the affected residents.
