Man’s Rage: Tow Truck Theft Wrecks Vehicles in Sunset Park

An irate man allegedly stole a tow truck and caused considerable damage to multiple vehicles in Sunset Park on Friday morning after witnessing his own vehicle being towed away, according to authorities. The incident unfolded at approximately 10:40 a.m., when the tow truck driver attempted to seize the individual’s car on 53rd Street between 1st and 2nd avenues.

In a fit of rage, the man allegedly pushed the tow truck driver before climbing into the vehicle and embarking on a brief but destructive “joy ride” down 55th Street and 3rd Avenue. Along the way, he sideswiped several cars that were attached to the tow truck, causing considerable damage to each of them.

The man ultimately abandoned the truck at the intersection of 55th Street and 3rd Avenue before fleeing on foot. Video footage captured by News12 depicted the incident as it unfolded, showing the man getting into a fighting stance as the tow truck driver defensively retreated. The video then cuts to the stolen truck being driven down the street, with the man’s front car door swinging open and striking multiple parked vehicles before coming to a stop in front of a city bus.

One individual whose car was severely damaged during the chaotic event, Giro, stated that he is unable to afford the necessary repairs and is hopeful that the police will apprehend the perpetrator. I need to call insurance or police,” Giro told News12. I need this car; I need it to take my daughter to school.

Currently, law enforcement officials are actively searching for the individual responsible for the incident, which left a trail of wrecked and damaged vehicles in its wake.
