Fitzgerald, Georgia – The mother of the alleged Georgia high school shooter Colt Gray spoke publicly for the first time since the tragic event occurred. Marcee, devastated by the situation, was carrying pillows into her father’s home in Fitzgerald when she shared her thoughts with reporters. She stated that the incident was “absolutely horrible” and declined to discuss any details or messages exchanged between her and Colt prior to the shooting.
Marcee’s father Charles Polhamus revealed that Colt sent a concerning text message before the shooting took place, mentioning an apology to his mother. The young shooter allegedly used an AR-15 style rifle, which he had received as a Christmas gift from his father, Colin Gray. Both Colt and Colin now face life in prison for their involvement in the incident.
Before the shooting, Marcee had been at her father’s home when she received the concerning text message from her son. She immediately called Apalachee High School and warned a counselor of an “extreme emergency,” urging them to go find Colt and check on him. Charles Polhamus expressed his belief that both Colt and his father are getting what they deserve for their actions, and he has called for the death penalty for Colin Gray.
According to Polhamus, the environment in which Colt was raised played a significant role in the tragic events that unfolded at Apalachee High School. He described his ex-son-in-law as an “evil” abusive junkie who had dragged Marcee into addiction with him, ruining the family and setting the stage for violence. Marcee, who has a rap sheet dating back nearly two decades, once described herself as a victim of abuse and claimed that her children were “thriving” after she and Colin Gray separated.
Despite reports from former neighbors alleging that Marcee had abused her children and locked them out of the house, Polhamus denied these claims, placing the blame solely on his son-in-law’s actions. He emphasized that Colt was a product of his environment and did not wake up one day with the decision to kill four people; instead, he came from an abusive household filled with addiction.
