Despite claims that Colt Gray, the 14-year-old accused of the crime, comes from a low-income and uneducated family, a relative of his mother insists this is not the case. According to the anonymous relative, most of the teen’s mother’s relatives are middle class with college degrees and good-paying jobs.
The image of Gray’s home life has been marred by neglect and abuse, leading to numerous visits from the state’s child protective services agency. His troubled mother, Marcee Gray, is described as having a hot temper and struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, which led to estrangement from her family for some time.
Additionally, the family of the alleged shooter has expressed concerns about Colt Gray’s father, Colin Gray, who was arrested on charges of manslaughter, second-degree murder, and cruelty to children. He is accused of buying the AR-15-style rifle used in the shooting as a Christmas gift for his son.
Both father and son appeared in court on Friday, facing potential life imprisonment. While Colt Gray’s family acknowledges the tragedy experienced by the victims’ families, they also believe that their relative is a victim in this case, and are advocating for intensive therapy, medication, and rehabilitation.
