Mondaire Jones Criticized for Iron Dome Votes: Campaign Praise Amidst Controversy

Former Democratic Representative Mondaire Jones has been criticized for his past votes against funding Israel’s Iron Dome and other missile defense systems during his time in Congress, despite claiming on his campaign website that he is a “staunch defender” of the Jewish state. Jones’ record includes multiple votes against US funding for the Iron Dome and David’s Sling missile defense systems as part of the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA. Left-wing advocacy groups such as the Jewish Democratic Council of America and J Street have endorsed Jones’ run to unseat Republican freshman Representative Mike Lawler. Jones has been joined in voting down these provisions by anti-Israel “Squad” Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman. Despite opposing the bills, Jones still took credit for introducing some amendments that were included in the final text.
