Drinking Water Concerns Spread Worldwide, Study Finds

More than half of respondents from 141 countries believe that drinking water could harm them within the next two years, according to a study published in Nature Communications. Researchers analyzed data from over 148,000 adults in the 2019 Lloyd’s Register Foundation World Risk Poll and found varying levels of concern among nations. Although access to clean water was not a major issue for most countries surveyed, public perception of safety and trust played a significant role in people’s concerns. The study also revealed that corruption rates and poor infrastructure were key factors in predicting a country’s rate of anticipation of harm from drinking water.
