Harris Stands Firm: US Arms Aid for Israel Undecided Amidst Gaza Conflict

Vice President Kamala Harris has declined to comment on whether the United States would withhold weapons shipments to Israel during its ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza. In her first interview since replacing President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris was asked by CNN’s Dana Bash if she would take a different approach to the conflict than her boss, potentially including an arms embargo on Israel.

Harris did not explicitly rule out such a move in her response, stating instead, “I am unequivocal and unwavering in my commitment to Israel’s defense and its ability to defend itself, and that is not going to change.” She continued by emphasizing the importance of how this defense is carried out, noting that far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed in recent days.

The Vice President expressed hope for a cease-fire agreement to be reached between Israel and Hamas as quickly as possible, acknowledging the urgent need to protect innocent lives on both sides of the conflict. As the situation develops further, additional updates and potential shifts in policy will likely be closely monitored by those following the escalating tensions in the region.
