MFF Controversy: Bailouts Gone Wrong

The Minneapolis Freedom Fund (MFF) has faced criticism for bailing out some criminals who then went on to commit even more heinous crimes while awaiting trial. In 2020, the group was condemned for its decision to pay $50,000 in bail for Rayshawn Jackson, who had been charged with attempted first-degree murder and second-degree assault after firing multiple rounds at police officers during a domestic dispute. Jackson is currently serving a nine-year sentence for those crimes.

Another example of the MFF’s questionable decisions involves bailing out George Howard in 2021, who was later charged with murder for shooting another man in a road rage incident. In this case, the MFF tried to deflect blame by saying they had no control over Howard’s actions after he was released on bail. However, their initial response expressing support for Howard was met with backlash from the community, forcing them to issue an apology and revise their statement.
