Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently announced his run for president, has sparked more questions about his residency status by claiming in a fundraising email that he “owns a home” in New York. The email pitch was sent to supporters by the Kennedy-Nicole Shanahan campaign and claimed that a person owning a home, registered to vote, and paying taxes in New York could be considered a New York resident.
The solicitation criticized the Democratic National Committee for attempting to disqualify Kennedy from the race by challenging his official residence. In May, The Post reported that the independent candidate had claimed his voting address at 84 Croton Lake Road in Katonah as his own. However, court records revealed the property was in foreclosure proceedings due to non-payment, and its legal owner is Barbara Moss, the wife of longtime RFK pal Timothy Haydock, a Westchester doctor.
Neighbors reportedly had never seen Kennedy at the property, but he insists it is his official residence. It should be noted that he did not claim to currently own a home in New York. Before announcing his presidential bid, Kennedy spent most of his time at his Los Angeles home with actress wife Cheryl Hines, who starred in HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Last week, RFK appeared in Albany court to defend himself against a lawsuit alleging that he falsely claimed to live in New York. The lawsuit was brought by Clear Choice PAC, a super PAC aligned with the Democratic ticket now led by Vice President Kamala Harris, following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not seek re-election.
Kennedy is working towards achieving ballot status in as many states as possible to mount a third party candidacy. A decision on the residency dispute is expected from Judge Christina Ryba this week. The Kennedy campaign has yet to comment on the matter.
