Revolutionizing the Olympics: New Events, No Cars, and a Touch of Hollywood in 2028 Los Angeles

Flag football, often associated with cookouts and fraternity backyards, will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after receiving support from the NFL. While women’s flag-football division will be a new addition to the games, other sports such as obstacle course racing (akin to “American Ninja Warrior”) and squash will also join the lineup of new events. Lacrosse and cricket are returning to the Olympics after more than a century’s absence, while baseball and softball are making their return after being absent in Paris. In proper California fashion, surfing and skateboarding will remain as well. The 2028 games will be the third hosted by Los Angeles, which is embracing its numerous stadiums to showcase the city’s attractions. Mayor Karen Bass has revealed plans for a “no-car games,” with all Olympic events being accessible only via public transportation and cars barred from venues. This ambitious plan aims to curb LA’s notorious gridlock traffic and will rely on about 3,000 buses brought in from across the country, along with the city asking businesses to let employees work from home during the games’ 17-day duration. Los Angeles also plans to put on a Hollywood-worthy opening ceremony and televised experience for the 2028 Games.
