Former President Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris by a significant margin in two new surveys conducted after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 race and endorsed Harris as his replacement. A On Point Politics/SoCal Research study found that among 801 probable voters, 51 percent supported Trump while 43 percent chose Harris, with six percent undecided. This represents a small shift since a similar poll in July when 52 percent of respondents supported Trump and 44 percent chose Harris. A separate Morning Consult survey also showed Trump ahead, albeit by a narrower margin of 47-45 percent.
Although Joe Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee, there is still uncertainty as to who will ultimately become the party’s candidate in the upcoming election. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other leading Democrats have also publicly backed Harris. In a statement on Sunday, Biden called for unity among Democrats, stating: “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.
Meanwhile, there has been some speculation regarding Joe Biden’s health following his announcement that he would not seek reelection. Frank Biden, one of the president’s younger brothers, said that Joe’s declining health “absolutely” played a significant role in his decision to drop out of the race. However, other members of the Biden family have dismissed this claim as untrue and asserted that Frank has not spoken with his brother for weeks due to his alcoholism.
In response to President Biden’s withdrawal from the race and endorsement of Kamala Harris, Trump’s campaign released an ad highlighting Harris’ failure to control the southern border and her trademark cackling laugh. The video opens by warning viewers that it may upset liberals who do not want voters to know the truth about Harris’ tenure as vice president. The narrator then criticizes the Biden-Harris administration for the chaotic situation at the border, highlighting record numbers of illegal immigrants since Harris was appointed to address the issue.
