On Monday, CNN reported that SpaceX, Tesla, and Starlink CEO Elon Musk had made a last-minute call to former President Donald Trump, urging him to select Ohio GOP Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate. Trump later announced this decision during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
CNN’s Kate Bolduan mentioned Musk’s support for Vance while discussing a Wall Street Journal report that claimed Musk has committed $45 million per month to a pro-Trump super PAC. This significant financial contribution highlights the businessman’s strong endorsement of Trump, which has surprised many given his previous support for Obama.
Musk’s involvement in America PAC, which focuses on registering voters and encouraging early mail-in voting in swing states, is significant. The organization has hired hundreds of staff members to engage with constituents and encourage mail-in ballot requests in these crucial areas. According to a filing made on Monday, the PAC received $8.75 million in contributions for the three months ending on June 30.
Musk’s support for Trump dates back to an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he expressed his full endorsement and wished for the president’s rapid recovery. In addition, hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has also endorsed Trump.
It is worth mentioning that Musk made a financial donation to America PAC in June, as reported by Bloomberg News. His support for Trump comes amidst criticism of President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, which Musk expressed on his X platform. The CEO visited the U.S.-Mexico border at Eagle Pass, Texas, and voiced concerns over the growing number of illegal immigrants.
Musk’s donation coincides with a significant $104 million fundraising haul for Trump’s campaign by Make America Great Again Inc., a leading super PAC. The businessman’s actions demonstrate his commitment to supporting candidates who align with his views, even if they differ from those of the majority of Silicon Valley executives.
