Former first daughter Ivanka Trump issued a heartfelt statement after an attempt on her father’s life at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The assailant opened fire during the event, and although President Donald Trump was not injured, one person attending the rally lost their life, along with the alleged shooter.
Ivanka Trump thanked everyone for their love and prayers, expressing gratitude to the Secret Service and other law enforcement officers for their quick actions that day. She also expressed her love for her father, and prayed for the country in her statement on X, formerly Twitter.
Tiffany Trump, another of the president’s children, also posted on the platform, thanking God for keeping her father alive amid the violence. Both sons of the former president, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, made posts on the network as well.
The former president himself issued a statement on his TruthSocial account, thanking everyone for their thoughts and prayers and emphasizing the importance of standing united in the face of such wickedness. He also mentioned that he would be speaking to the nation from Wisconsin later in the week.
President Joe Biden released a statement as well, expressing gratitude that Trump was safe and well after the shooting, condemning violence in America and calling for unity among all citizens. The president also acknowledged the role of the Secret Service in protecting the former president during the event.
According to sources briefed on the situation and a U.S. official, Trump was shot at by an armed individual during his event in Butler, Pennsylvania. One rally attendee and the alleged shooter were killed in the incident. The New York Times reported that the two persons briefed on the subject stated one rally attendee lost their life, along with the alleged shooter.
A campaign spokesman confirmed that Trump was “fine,” despite his face and ear being bloodied as Secret Service personnel ushered him off the platform and into his limousine. He gave a defiant fist pump as he was led to his motorcade.
