Secrets Unveiled: Comer Calls for Full Disclosure on Trump Campaign Rally Shooting

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has requested that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle provide information and preserve all documents related to the deadly shooting at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In a letter to Cheatle, the Republican from Kentucky sought clarity on the management of resources and personnel by the United States Secret Service during the July 13 event.

The committee requested a complete list of law enforcement personnel, including Secret Service agents, Department of Homeland Security officers, and local police who were tasked with protecting Donald Trump at the rally. It also sought audio and video recordings, memos or notices issued by Cheatle, pre-site surveys, maps and diagrams of the rally site, text messages and communications between Secret Service agents and local law enforcement personnel.

Comer demanded that the material be provided to the committee by July 18, ahead of Cheatle’s expected appearance before the panel on July 22. He also requested that all documents and communications related to the Butler, Pennsylvania campaign rally for President Trump be preserved.

Earlier in the day, Cheatle vowed to fully participate in an independent review ordered by President Biden and the Oversight Committee’s parallel investigation. The shooting left Trump wounded and one rally-goer dead, with two others injured. The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by Secret Service agents shortly after he opened fire.
