On Saturday night, a tragedy unfolded in Sarver, Pennsylvania when a sniper fired at former President Donald Trump during a political rally, resulting in the death of dedicated firefighter and “girl dad” Corey Comperatore, who shielded his family from bullets. The incident has left his community mourning, as well as his wife Helen and two adult daughters.
Corey Comperatrice, 50, was fatally shot when he used his body as a shield to protect his wife and daughter during the attempted assassination of Trump. His actions were remembered by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro who ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on Sunday in remembrance of the beloved firefighter.
Comperatrice, a volunteer fire chief for Buffalo Township, stepped down from his position in the early 2000s so he could spend more time with his children. His dedication to his family was evident when he shielded them from the bullets during the shooting.
Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Kip Johnston told The Post that Comperatrice was a great leader and family man who loved his community. Randy Reamer, the president of the town’s fire company, described him as an ideal firefighter who served for more than 20 years.
Assistant Chief Ricky Heasley, who knew him for more than a decade, said he was full of life and never had a bad word to say about anyone. The fire company plans to install memorial drapery to honor the fallen hero.
In addition to Comperatrice, Trump and two other rally-goers were injured during the shooting. The suspected shooter, a 20-year-old local man, was shot and killed by Secret Service agents during the incident.
