Former President Donald Trump’s legal team has filed a motion with a New York judge requesting that his hush money conviction be dismissed after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that presidents have immunity for official acts. In the motion, Trump defense attorney Todd Blanche argues that the recent decision should have implications on what evidence is permissible in court and specifically contends that evidence related to “official acts” should not have been admitted during the trial. Blanche also asserts that the Supreme Court’s decision does not allow for an “overwhelming evidence” or “harmless error” exception to “the profound institutional interests at stake.” Trump’s sentencing has been pushed back until September, giving the court time to consider the Supreme Court’s ruling.
