The House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to three high-ranking White House aides, requiring them to testify about President Joe Biden’s health status and who is truly in charge of the country. This move comes after recent revelations about the mishandling of classified documents by the president and concerns over his cognitive state.
Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has subpoenaed First Lady Jill Biden’s top aide Anthony Bernal, deputy chief of staff Annie Tomasini, and senior advisor Ashley Williams – all described as influential figures within the White House but who maintain a low public profile.
Comer cites Bernal and Tomasini’s unusual access to the first family’s residence, which has been observed by White House residence staff, as a point of concern. Political staffers typically do not have such access, raising questions about their influence over President Biden and his decision-making processes.
In addition to these concerns, Comer expressed alarm that these officials may be running the country in place of President Biden, who is experiencing some health challenges. The letters sent to Bernal and Tomasini suggest that the committee seeks to understand the extent of their influence over the president and whether he is personally fulfilling his duties as commander-in-chief.
Another point of interest is Tomasini’s close relationship with Hunter Biden, which dates back to her time working under the Obama administration. Emails from 2010 to 2016 show that she often referred to him as her “brother” and would end emails with “LY,” or Love You.
Comer has stated that the White House has been attempting to shield these key aides from testifying about President Biden’s health status, which he believes raises questions about their intentions and motives. In a statement, Comer said, “President Biden is clearly unfit for office, yet his staff are trying to hide the truth from the American people. Key White House staff must come before our committee so we can provide the transparency and accountability that Americans deserve.
