Chad Irish, 55, was charged with second-degree murder after being taken into custody for the death of Yazmeen Williams, a 31-year-old woman whose body was discovered on a Manhattan sidewalk last week. Surveillance footage obtained by The Post allegedly shows Irish pulling a sleeping bag containing the victim’s remains in a wheelchair dolly. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny stated that surveillance footage of the suspect dragging the body helped lead to his arrest. Irish is also facing counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and concealment of human corpse, which were lodged against him earlier in the week.
Irish appeared disoriented and confused during his wheelchair exit from the police station, as reporters questioned him about the victim and the bag she was found in. He denied having any knowledge of the alleged murder weapon or its whereabouts, claiming he did not know what bag the reporter was referring to. Irish has been arrested 21 times previously and has a twin brother who shares his name and has a criminal past as well.
At least two locals from the NYCHA building where Irish resided confronted him about his involvement in Williams’ murder on Monday, as rumors circulated throughout the area. However, Irish denied any connection to her death, claiming that he had placed garbage or dirty clothes inside the bag. An argument between Frazier and Irish led to the suspect pulling out a gun; later, when Frazier called the police, officers arrested him.
Irish has been charged with additional counts of menacing and weapons possession, although these charges are unrelated to Williams’ death. While living in the same building as Irish, Williams occasionally stayed with him, though their relationship is not clear at this time. When taken into custody on Monday, an angry mob of neighbors swarmed him before he was put into the back of an ambulance.
